Igor Tyhsler was born in Moscow in 1954. Since 1980 his artwork was exhibited at more then 40 art shows all around the world: Russia, Germany, France, Finland, Austria, England, Israel, USA, Japan and Canada. Since 1996 he lives in Montreal and continues his work as painter and cabinetmaker.
Igor Tyshler's visual language suggests a temporal location set in the space of dreams. Enigma and symbolic meaning pervade his paintings of fairy tale figures: princes, princesses, heroes and heroines. Tyshler recognizes that fairy tale is a universal fantasy that absorbs popular literature, local legends and mythology. The fascination with the irrational and subconscious is evoked in intermix of mysterious objects and faces reminiscent of Flemish medieval and early Renaissance portraiture. The faces have a certain family resemblance imbued with decorum, stature, grace and beauty. In this family the expression of individuality is conveyed in subtle variations such as the tilt of the head, the arrangement of the hair, the placing of the hand and elegance displays of clothing and ornaments. Like the heroes of an ancient saga, the faces of these men and women are ideal expression of human behavior - love, devotion, kindness, tenderness and generosity. They are positive forces of civilization, the guiding principles of spiritual believes. - PhD Loren Lerner, Art History, Chair, Concordia University
